THE CASTLE COLLECTION,
Circa late 1960′s, early 1970′s
This collection of illustrations was acquired from the estate of a well known collector who was acquainted with Ted Geisel for many years. In consideration of the fact that they are not published work, proof of authenticity was required. The collection was sent to one of the country’s top forensic experts who examined the illustrations to authenticate the line and signature of the artist. Additionally, by permission of Audrey Geisel’s archivist at UCSD, many similar illustrations belonging to her estate were examined for comparison before the report was finished. A copy of this report accompanies each illustration. Pen & Ink on paper or illustrator’s board with watercolor or crayon.
The collection was on exhibit at Chateau Belcastel from 2005 – 2010, and was included in “The Art of Dr Seuss” exhibition at The William Benton Museum of Art in 2011.
