My Strange Goddess

Yoko d'Holbachie

April 29th - May 29th, 2012

Inspired by popular culture in her native Japan and beyond, Yoko d'Holbachie's acrylic on canvas paintings feature candy-colored creatures with wormlike tentacles traveling through fantasy landscapes. Elements of Kawaii, Anime, Pop Art and Surrealism blend together in d'Holbachie's works.

With this show, her most personal body of work to date, d'Holbachie turns her attention to  the feminine, creating portraits of goddesses that are alternately angry, loving, weak and dangerous. The work of d'Holbachie, who was born in Yokohama, has been seen in London, Rome, Los Angeles and Miami. This is her first solo exhibition in the United States.
